Myanmar Remote Talent: What You Need To Know
Singapore Management University Greenhouse
Calling all entrepreneurs, startup founders, HR professionals and anyone curious about Myanmar's talent landscape. At first glance, Myanmar may seem like an unlikely place to look for talent to support a fast-growing startup or SME. But there is more to the country's talent landscape than meets the eye. Join us for an informal sharing session with Paul Tun Maw, flying in from Myanmar, and Edison Zhuang, a Singapore-based Fractional CTO who has worked with Myanmar engineers across multiple startups. Hear first-hand what it is really like to hire, manage and retain remote talent from Myanmar, and what Singapore companies should know before taking the plunge. Learn how companies can potentially access skilled talent at 5 to 7 times lower manpower costs, while creating meaningful remote employment opportunities for professionals in Myanmar. We will also discuss the 2026 business landscape following the 2021 coup, what has changed on the ground, and the practical lessons from employers who have already built teams with Myanmar talent. What we'll cover Myanmar today: A brief overview of the country's history, geography, economy and business landscape following the 2021 coup. Working with Myanmar talent: Cultural norms, communication styles and practical considerations when managing remote teams. The talent landscape: Where Myanmar's skilled talent can be found, particularly across technology, SMEs and the creative industries. Real-world experience: Lessons from employers who have hired and managed Myanmar-based remote teams. Q&A: An open discussion with the speakers.
